About Sankofa House

Sankofa House gold Adinkra emblem

Adinkra cloth-stamping has been centered for generations at Ntonso, a village of dyers and carvers just outside Kumasi, the seat of the Asante Kingdom — bark-dye ink pressed onto cotton in symbols that carry a proverb instead of a logo.

Sankofa House stays specifically within the Asante branch of Adinkra, rather than the wider pan-Akan usage the symbols have since spread into. Each design, name, and meaning on this site follows Ntonso's own convention.

We're a print-on-demand shop: every piece is made after it's ordered, by a fulfillment partner, and shipped directly to you. Nothing is pre-stitched, nothing sits in a warehouse, and nothing is discounted-off because it didn't sell — because nothing is made until someone buys it.
